There is very little to be same regarding this circuit. All the work is completed by the regulator. The LM 7809 will deliver up to a pair of amps continuous output while maintaining an occasional noise and really well regulated power supply. The circuit can work while not the additional elements, except for reverse polarity protection a one N5404 diode (D1) is supplied at the input, further smoothing being provided by C1. The output stage includes C3 for further filtering, if powering a logic circuit than a 100nF (0.1uF) condensator is additionally fascinating to get rid of any high frequency switch noise.
