High Voltage DC Power Supply for Power Amplifier

For those of you who like the sound system in particular the Power Amplifier (we call PA) of course you will face on the issue of high voltage dc power supply. Power supply is a power amplifier for high power supply to be large capacity in amperes of electricity. Minimal power for make this power supply is the least we have to use 5 Amperes on the transformer. Here we will be get to know the basics of power supply for the Power Amplifier in it include work system Power supply, then what kind of power supply used in it.

In a power supply for Sound Amplifier usually use a symmetric system with voltage of power supply are at least 2 X 24 V DC with a minimum of 5 Ampere power supply for providing power to the circuit? In modern Power supply for Power Amplifier has been using the switching power supply. Switching Power supply is a power supply with Electronic Systems for vibrating the transformer, this Circuit block will discharge electricity were large enough despite using a small transformer.  Besides that, this issue of power supply power for the circuit at an early stage OP-Amp in PA is a low capacity, it’s only a minimum of 2X 15 Volt DC. So included it in the category of dual power Supplies which are already contained in the regulator to a voltage divider, circuit PA system. So the greater the power output by the PA, the greater will be the required power, in the sense that the greater the power the greater the required transformers. Of course more weight in capacity.

I've ever dismantle / repairing a variety of active speakers in which there are Power Amplifier (PA). In it is already using the system of switching power supplies, very light in weight capacity of only a few kilograms. Sometimes I find there is a power Amplifier using toroidal transformers. Indeed the PSU block devices that use transformers have physically heavy and bulky, so needs a space wide enough. When using an electronic power supply (Switching PSU), the output voltage and output power varies quite large, because it is equipped with a regulator that is useful to separate the required voltage of each component of the PA. The output voltage of the power supply symmetric issued very stable and have high levels of distortion and Humming are very small.

If you want to make a simple amplifier, I recommend you to use a switching power supply; another alternative is to use Toroid transformers. Try to get a dual output of this transformer. The first output current and voltage has a large, e.g. 2X 60V AC (Center Tap), and the second output has a small output, for example 2X 15V AC (CT), which serves to provide supply to the Op-Amp. In the Op Amp contained an IC component that serves as the input amplifier on the sound signal. Note that; IC Op-Amp does not require large current consumption. It is better to use a regulator circuit which it in this level require the regulator IC 78XX and 79XX series so that we have a fairly high stability and the low hum distortion.

In the following scheme you will see output Toroid with output that uses Symmetric Dual Output. Red cable as an input voltage source in this case 220 volts in the secondary and there are two symmetrical output voltage consisting of separate voltage, respectively i.e. 2X 60V AC, and other outputs 2X 15V AC.

In the second scheme you will see the basic block diagram of the amplifier is composed of parts; Op Amp Stages, Front Stages, Buffer Stages and Final Stages. In the provision of voltage for the Op Amplifier will get 2 X 12V power supply of from the PSU Regulator Circuit. Distribution for the Voltages.

If you feel curious about how the scheme of power supply is used for Audio Amplifier that uses a Toroid transformer, then I will briefly describe the scheme for you. We see first where as input and which is also the output. Usually, factory has written this position along with how much voltage coming out. Now you have to where to connect the secondary of this transformer. Secondary part that reads AC 2X60V we connect to Block Rectifier and so on. We write as a 'Sec A'. Then the labeled secondary AC 2X15V we connect to the Block 'Sec B'. After all this equipment we raft, then we just connect it to the Audio Amplifier/ PA blocks, each of which consists of a power supply of its own.  See the Scheme in detail. Perhaps this is what I can teach to you, may be useful for us all
